Wildlife in Florida  | Eastern Lubber Grasshopper in Florida

Yes, it is as big as it looks: Eastern Lubber Grasshopper

28-Jul-2010

These grasshoppers are HUGE but surprisingly they eat less than their smaller counterparts when it comes to crunching up your plants. They don't really fly either. They do, however, hiss and spit out a foam if they feel threatened. The first time I ever saw one of these, I thought it was a plastic toy left behind on my property. Then it blinked so I knew it was alive. Florida has some really really BIG insects!
