Blue Crab (Callinectes sapidus)

13-Oct-2010

Blue Crab (Callinectes sapidus) Though lacking a claw, this fellow wasn't lacking in aggressiveness! I didn't know crabs could lunge. Unlike ghost crabs, which are terrestrial in their adult stage, blue crabs are aquatic and their back legs are called swimmerets. Modified into flat, paddle-like appendages, they help crabs navigate the water column.
