American toads breed in ponds, ditches and wetlands, but after toads reach adulthood they can live in fields, woods, suburban backyards and gardens. American toads are found throughout the eastern half of the U.S. except in the Southeast.
American toads are a gardener's friend. They eat insect pests that damage vegetable gardens and are a delightful addition to any backyard habitat.
