Red foxes have excellent hearing. They can hear low-frequency sounds and rodents digging underground. How to see Red Fox
Red foxes (the most commonly viewed fox) have become wonderfully adapted to urban life, to the point of being more prevalent in urban areas than in the traditional countryside. These foxes are best seen at dawn or dusk, or roaming around the streets in the middle of the night. Foxes have become relatively desensitized to humans in towns, and are sometimes seen in the middle of the day, even as far as sunning themselves in quiet places. Look for fox cubs playing around culverts (borrowed for a den) in early spring.
