Turkey vultures are great scavengers, because they have one of the strongest noses of all birds.  Their sense of smell can locate dead animals, even as small as rodents, while in flight above a forest.

How to see Turkey Vulture

Turkey vultures often glide on the thermals, scouring the land below for carrion. They are amazing fliers.

Watch groups of them (unscientifically more like "packs" than "flocks") as they travel along ridge-lines, using the thermals to carry them.
